Why visit us?

Nestled deep in the heart of the wheat belt, Temora Shire doesn't have stunning beaches or scenic mountain views. What we do have is heart - a lot of it.

If it's picturesque views you're after then the rolling plains of golden canola, red dirt, lush green fields and bronze wheat paddocks will take your breath away. There's nothing quite like the expanse of a country setting and Temora does it beautifully.

The township of Temora itself is a bustling little town that lives up to it's long standing title of the "friendliest town". It's main street is thriving with boutiques, services, business and cafes. The locals give you a smile and a "how's it going?" as you pass them on the street, and they genuinely care to hear your answer. You can access almost anything you would need within a three block setting, and the service you will receive is second to none. Temora provides a true country town experience.

Hungry? What a choice you have! From counter meals that border on gourmet, to chic cafes and cultured cuisines, there's a mouth-watering selection of establishments. Take some time to browse the boutiques or grab a really good coffee from any of the cafes in town. You won't be disappointed.

Looking to be entertained? Our 82 seat cinema shows new releases and special screenings several times a week. The intimate setting and the volunteers who have kept the theatre running for over ten years make it a truly delightful experience.

If you're a bit of a history buff then the Bundawarrah Centre will provide an abundance of interest. This is where you'll find our Visitor Information Centre as well as the Rural Museum, Ambulance Museum and art gallery. With an extensive collection of artefacts the Bundawarrah Centre could keep you busy for hours.

Our world famous Aviation Museum is a must see. The aircraft collection is phenomenal and if you're lucky enough to attend during a showcase weekend you can expect to see rare and impressive aircraft displays overhead. In some cases you'll witness planes flying that you won't find anywhere else in the world.

If you're looking for recreation activities we won't disappoint. Lake Centenary is simply breathtaking and provides swimming, fishing, water skiing and Jet Boats Championships. The Lake Loop is a purpose built walking track that circles the lake providing a picturesque spot for a family walk. Take advantage of the free BBQs and play equipment and make yourself at home. If it's something a little more active you were thinking of, Temora also boasts an 18 hole golf course, an Olympic size pool and a 25m indoor heated pool, a number of sporting grounds covering all the codes you can think of and a mini golf course. Take your pick!

Just 30 minutes out of town is the beautiful village of Ariah Park. This gorgeous pocket of the earth is overflowing with country charm. The village was a thriving centre in the 1920s and not much has changed since then. The architecture and streetscape have been preserved to ensure your experience is like nothing you'll find anywhere else. Visit the Ariah Park Hotel for a true understanding of the beautiful architecture and the Echoes of Ariah Park Museum will fill you in on the history of this quaint little village.

With so much to do in the Temora Shire you'll be needing somewhere to stay. No problem. From free camp to B&Bs, hotels to caravan parks, you're sure to find a comfortable place to lay your hat. Stay a little longer and use Temora as your base to explore the wider Riverina region and the Canola Trail. For more information on what to see and do in the region visit www.canolatrail.com.au or riverinamurray.com.au to plan your personal itinerary.

We know you'll simply love visiting our little corner of the world and that the Temora Shire will leave a lasting impression on you. We know because we are lucky enough to live here.
