Temora Aerodrome

Temora Aviation Museum is the showpiece of what is a thriving centre at Temora aerodrome.

The roots of aviation in Temora go back to World War II when the aerodrome was the site for the Number 10 Elementary Flying Training School (TENEFTS).From its establishment in 1941, some 10,000 pilots and staff passed through the base, with many going on to participate in the aerial defence of Australia.

Following the war, former RAAF personnel and Temora residents established the Temora Aero Club, which still operates today. In 1991, the club participated in the 50th anniversary reunion of former TENEFTS personnel, including an air show featuring a world record fly-in of 71 DH82A Tiger Moths - many of them based here during the war.

Today, Temora’s aerodrome is going through a period of revival, with many aeronautical enthusiasts being drawn to the site by its excellent facilities and the proactive outlook of Temora Shire Council.A growing aviation estate provides first class access to the aerodrome’s facilities, with residents able to situate their hangars right beside their own houses.

Visitors to the aerodrome can also take advantage of the caravan park situated on site.

Climatic conditions in Temora are favourable to a range of aerial activities, with the aerodrome being described as a mecca for gliding enthusiasts. An excellent venue for cross-country gliding, it has regularly hosted state and national club class championships.

It is also an ideal location for skydiving, due to its stable weather conditions, unrestricted airspace and outstanding facilities – not to mention the spectacular views of the Riverina.

So take the time during your visit to Temora to check out what’s on offer at Temora Aerodrome – the sky’s the limit!
