The Proposed “Mimosa Village”
In May 1917 Council approval was given for the proposed Village of Mimosa. The chosen site was in the middle of farmland and was well away from major transport. The plan made provision for thirty-eight housing allotments.
Despite efforts of the syndicate (applicants) no house was ever erected on the building allotments. Questions have been raised as to why the syndicate would invest in the proposed village, further research has identified that the decision would have been influenced by the idea and promotion of a proposed railway line through the district. The proposed railway line would start in the Combaning district and proceed through Mimosa, then through Methul and then concluding at Grong Grong (see below map).
