A place to be inspired…
Temora Shire is the home of a number of both established and emerging artists, with many drawing inspiration for their work from the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Among them is acclaimed artist and staunch conservationist, David Schlunke, who is well known for his bushland scenes from the local district.
David feels privileged to work from his studio which is the third level of his mudbrick house in the Big Bush Nature Reserve in Temora Shire.
He has also sought inspiration from nature further afield, enjoying a close connection with the Amazon rainforest for a number of years.
His work is featured in many national and private collections, and his entries have been hung in the Wynne and Archibald prizes.
Artistic talents run in the Schlunke family, as David is the son of one of Australia’s former leading writers, Eric Schlunke.
Eric wrote short stories and novels which were published widely, deriving much of his inspiration from his own farming life in the Temora district.
The talents of artists and craftspeople in Temora Shire is wide ranging, with skills across the genres of painting, spinning, woodwork, leadlighting, textile art, dollmaking, jewellery making.
Local business, Patches of Heaven, holds mixed exhibitions of textile and fine arts, while also encouraging all aspects of textile art and craft. It frequently holds workshops with both visiting and local experts in a range of textile fields.
Temora Ex-Services Memorial Club also features the work of local artists in its bistro throughout the year.

Temora Arts and Crafts Society hosts a biannual event showcasing a magnificent display of local arts and crafts.
The exhibition is hosted in the Temora Shire Council Chambers, and is complemented by the Anglican Art Show which is held annually on the long weekend in October.
Temora Shire Arts Council is a community organisation which works towards fulfilling the finer cultural needs of the community, including the co-ordination of several live performances each year.
These performances are held at Temora Town Hall, a site boasting excellent acoustics for live performances, and seating up to 600 people.
Other performances are held throughout the year by local schools, and private musical and dance groups.
