Bush Bucks in the News:

Press Release - 26 Oct 2007

Visit the Bush Bucks website.

Aims of the campaign
  • To promote and encourage local shopping.
  • To attract dollars "Bush Bucks" from the urban areas using established links.
  • Long term to strengthen Bush-City relationships.
What makes this different from other shop local campaigns?
  • The campaign is NOT asking for charity.
  • It is not based on increased spending
  • It uses already existing networks
  • It seeks to strengthen Country-City relationships
  • It is NOT NEGATIVE
  • It is simple
How does it work?
  • Locals support locals given fair prices.
  • Using networks of family, friends, business, Churches, sporting clubs, service Clubs and other organisations locals spread the message.
  • Bush Bucks can be purchased by cash, card or cheque…either at the business or through the Temora Shire Council.
Why do we need to shop local and increase trade?
  • Locals employ locals
  • Population needs to be maintained
  • Less population means fewer services.
  • Fewer services means people will go and it is harder to get new people to come.
  • Rural towns then decline
What are the messages?
  • Recycle our dollars locally
  • Try and get family and friends to come to our town and shop or stay.
  • Come and visit us as our Christmas present
  • Use Bush Bucks Vouchers to transfer dollars from city to the bush
  • Bucks for the Bush"
  • Make your Bucks go "further"…
  • " A buck from your hand is worth two in the bush"
  • "If you’ve got a buck please spend it with us/here…in the bush"
  • "The Buck stops here!" (for Shop Local campaigns)
  • "Recycle your dollars here!"
  • "This Christmas …please shop locally"
  • "What stays in town… goes around"
  • "A dollar you spend… means a job for a friend"
  • "Be vocal…shop local"
  • "Keep our town alive, shop local and survive"
  • Look while you roam…but spend at home"
So far the Bush Bucks campaign has support from:
  • Temora Shire Council
  • Temora Business Enterprise Group
  • Dept. of State and Regional Development
It is hoped that we will now receive local backing from:
  • Businesses
  • Local Residents
  • Local clubs, Churches, Charities, Sporting Clubs and Service Clubs.
For Businesses:

Linda Hailey…A specialist retail and business advisor will visit Temora to help Businesses to make the best decisions for sales, marketing and presentation. Linda is the Small Business Expert on ABC Sunday

Several businesses will also be given one-on-one advice in their premises to improve lighting, displays, customer service and stocking.

TBEG and Council will work to keep the promotion to the local community of the benefits to the shire of shopping locally.

It is cost neutral to businesses unless you chose to advertise…even at worst you will have free gift vouchers.

Positive publicity for the town.

What are the benefits to Temora of shopping locally?

"The dollar you spend – means a job for a friend"

  • Maintenance of our commercial sector to provide jobs, experience and training.
  • It provides jobs not only full time but also for kids, part-time work for second incomes and off farm incomes so vital to the survival of many families.
  • To help keep population and therefore services. Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Police, Financial sector
  • To help our businesses, towns and farming families through the hard time… so that they are there in the good times when we will need them to grow our town.
The Bush Buck Voucher

The Bush Bucks Voucher will be secured by an embossed seal and watermarked
It can be issued as one voucher for an amount or several amounts. E.g. $50 = 20 x 2 + 10

How it works
  • Friend or relative buys Bush Bucks from a business or Council by cash, card or cheque.
  • The Recipient receives the voucher and spends it in Temora on goods and Services either at the business on the voucher or any participating business if the voucher is "open".
  • The business either already has the money or redeems the money from the Council.
  • The business pays bills and staff.
  • The business and staff they pay then spend…etc…etc.

"What stays in Town…Goes around"
