A volunteer group has enriched the cemeteries of Temora Shire, with members of the Friends of Temora Shire Cemeteries committee providing countless hours of work to ensure the facilities are maintained in excellent condition.
The group deals with historical aspects of the north-east section of the shire, with detailed research culminating in many publications over the years, and the installation of five plaques at historic sites of significance.
The focus of the group's efforts was the Centenary Celebrations in 2004, with the book Back To Bectric published at that time, as well as the installation of the historic plaque at Bectric Hall. The group encompasses an area in the south-west corner of the shire.
The group, located in the northern area of the shire, was a hive of activity in the lead-up to the 2002 Gidginbung School Reunion, at which time, the publication Gidginbung Memories was distributed and the historic panel unveiled.
The biggest achievement of the group was the publication of They Came to Mimosa in 2009, covering the history of the area in the south-west corner of the shire. Two panels have also been installed by the group to mark places of historic significance.
Five districts are encompassed by the group, nestled in the western area of the shire. 100 years of history was recorded in the book Our Place, published in 2010, with a series of historic plaques also installed at sites of significance.
Four historic panels and a published book were the fruits ofthe labour of the group which detailed the history of the southern area of the shire.
One of the most advanced history groups within Temora Shire, Trungley Hall/Duck Creek History Group covers an area to the north of Temora, centred on the locale of Trungley Hall (formerly known as Duck Creek). Much research and planning led to the expert recording of the history of the area, and various celebrations held within the tight-knit community.
Temora History Group has been responsible for recording the history of the township itself, as well as the fringe areas around the town. Historic walks around the town centre have been compiled, with plaques noting special areas of history.
